1:30 PM - 4:00 PM ORA#09: Budgeting

The Office of Research Administration (ORA) and Sponsored Programs Accounting and Compliance (SPAC) are committed to providing guidance to the university community on federal, state, and university policies and regulations for sponsored research. To enhance this effort, our two offices have combined to offer a series of courses, each intended to give a deeper understanding of a specific aspect of contract and grant administration. For more information on the Certificate Program, go to www.ora.umd.edu/training/certificate-program.

Certificate Program courses may be taken in any order, and you may choose to take as many or as few as you like. Course modules are offered at least once a year. Class 9 - Budgeting - covers the responsibilities of department business managers, particularly as they relate to the following topics:

  • Application of Facilities and Administrative (F & A) Costs
  • Federal Demonstration Partnership - Prior Approvals

The Office of Research Administration (ORA) and Sponsored Programs Accounting and Compliance (SPAC) are committed to providing guidance to the university community on federal, state, and university policies and regulations for sponsored research. Effective Communication Skills

EDI: Foundations of Excellence is a six-course program for University staff (non-supervisors) to help them improve their skills and advance their careers. This is the first program from UHR's new initiative titled Employee Development Initiatives (EDI). EDI will feature many of the same development tools offered in LDI (Leadership Development Initiatives), but the EDI series will also focus more on the specific skills and knowledge that will help staff grow in their current positions and careers.

 

Some of the benefits you will experience include:

*        High-trust relationships with supervisors, coworkers, friends and family

*        Ability to resolve conflicts and reduce stress

*        Better time management, planning and organization skills

 the whole campus this upcoming February 2017.
 This new process will replace the former paper form-based process and will be more efficient and easy to use

 The I-9 Complete system will combine the existing manual I-9 process along with the E-Verify process into one electronic solution.  This training  will provide you with an overview and demo of the system, as well as a platform for you to ask any questions that you may have regarding the I-9/E-Verify process. The University of Maryland has secured a new web-based I-9 employment eligibility and E-Verify compliance system for the campus and will begin implementing

  The I-9 Complete system will combine the existing manual I-9 process along with the E-Verify process into one electronic solution.  This training  will provide you with an overview and demo of the system, as well as a platform for you to ask any questions that you may have regarding the I-9/E-Verify process. Encouraging an Inclusive Culture covers the following:

This training focuses on some of the common crucial conversations that need to happen in work environments striving for inclusion and diversity. Topics include how to interrupt harmful ways of relating with one another, how to have conversations when you have immediate diversity concerns, as well as those conversations that can proactively set a tone and culture of inclusion. The training will include discussions of and tips on how to: think about and talk about "cultural" differences in communication, supervision, and work style, as well as how to determine when and how to begin discussions of diversity issues at work.
