1:30 PM - 4:00 PM ORA#13: Intellectual Property & Technology Transfer

The Office of Research Administration (ORA) and Sponsored Programs Accounting and Compliance (SPAC) are committed to providing guidance to the university community on federal, state, and university policies and regulations for sponsored research. To enhance this effort, our two offices have combined to offer a series of courses, each intended to give a deeper understanding of a specific aspect of contract and grant administration. For more information on the Certificate Program, go to www.ora.umd.edu/training/certificate-program.

Certificate Program courses may be taken in any order, and you may choose to take as many or as few as you like. Course modules are offered at least once a year. Class 13 - Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer - covers the following topics:

  • Licensing Agreements

Communication Essentials

This course provides participants with skills for effective two-way communication, including listening, empathy, observing and responding. A recent survey found that 86% of all workplace issues could have been prevented through better communication. The facilitator gives attendees tools to improve their ability to communicate effectively with employees, managers or customers.‚Äč

Effective Communication Skills

EDI: Foundations of Excellence is a six-course program for University staff (non-supervisors) to help them improve their skills and advance their careers. This is the first program from UHR's new initiative titled Employee Development Initiatives (EDI). EDI will feature many of the same development tools offered in LDI (Leadership Development Initiatives), but the EDI series will also focus more on the specific skills and knowledge that will help staff grow in their current positions and careers.

 

Some of the benefits you will experience include:

*        High-trust relationships with supervisors, coworkers, friends and family

*        Ability to resolve conflicts and reduce stress

*        Better time management, planning and organization skills

Conflict Resolution

Participants learn, and practice, skills to prevent and resolve conflict in the workplace. The facilitator shares tips on how to turn negative situations into positive ones! And clear up and clear out misunderstandings that prevent group unity and hinder performance. You will learn how to create the work space that honors differences and invites creativity and trust to grow.

9:00 AM LDI II - Transformational Leadership (Multi-Day Event)

Transformational Leadership is a dynamic, highly-participative, two-day program designed to help supervisors make significant leaps in their leadership approach, knowledge, and skills.

Specifically, participants learn how to:

  • - Take complete ownership and responsibility as leaders
  • - Lead with fairness, objectivity and integrity
  • - Foster a culture that honors, values, and respects diversity and inclusion
  • - Create high-trust relationships at every level of the organization
